GREEN ROOFING
Green roofing systems are when a roof is partially or completely covered with vegetation and a growing medium, installed over a waterproofing membrane. These living roofs can be installed in intensive and extensive systems. At RFS Group we have installed green roofing systems across Ireland for both large and small scale projects.
There are various different types of green roof system including:
Extensive green roof system: This is a light weight system which includes a shallow growing medium. This type of green roof system is the most economical to install and maintain. While the environmental benefits of green roofing are well known it is important to get the look right too. We provide a range of sedum blankets with various species of wild flowers, ornamental grasses and culinary herbs. RFS Group will ensure that your client has a roof worth looking at and looking after.
Intensive green roof system: If a green roof is being used as part of a landscaping aesthetic, a recreational area or to be walked upon then a deeper layer of growing medium is required >200mm. Plants, shrubs and even trees can be installed in this type of green roofing system although generally irrigation systems will be needed.
